Dell.

October 25, 2007

I have just recently gotten a Dell computer.  I use it all the time!  I use it for homework, talking to friends, and just about everything else you can think of!  I e-mailed Dell.  This is what I said to them:

In July, my family had just got me a pink laptop form you guys.  I have been so busy getting everything downloaded and doing homework on it and everything.  For one of the school assignment, that I am doing on my laptop, we had to choose a company of some sort and we had to ask you.  I chose you guys, since I got my laptop from you!  We have all Dell computers.  Nothing else I thought that was pretty cool!  I just wanted to let you know how much I love this new laptop that I have and I am trying to convince my parents to get one for my sister so we don’t have to share!  My question for you is, have your sales and marketing people given any thought to offering customer created designs?  I think that this would be extremely cool! I just wanted to say thank you so much!

When they e-mail me back I will put it up here!

 Who did/would you e-mail?

Fastpitch Blog

October 25, 2007

I was looking for a blog about fastpitch softball.  I was determined to find one!  I was googling “blog + fastpitch softball” the blog that came up, on the top of the page, the description seemed really interesting to me.  I decided what the heck I am going to look at it.  Once I opened up the webpage I started reading the titles of the posts and the first one caught my eye!  It was titled “Homerun or Not?” I was like oh my gosh I need to look at this post!  This was definitely the blog that I was going to comment!  The post had a video of two teams.  The girl up to bat hit it just about over the fence, the left fielder caught the ball on the other side of the fence (the fence was a short one just about up to your hips) she knocked down the fence and landed on the other side, of where the fence would have been.  The rule states that if you land on the other side of the fence after you caught the ball then it is a homerun!  Once I read this blog and watched the video I had my mind made up!  I was not looking at any other blog!  This is the comment that I left the blogger:

Oh my gosh that was an amazing catch! I also play fastpitch softball. I have seen some pretty amazing things in the 9 years that I have been playing, I am still young. This is one of the most amazing catches I have ever seen! I wish that I could have seen that in person! Were you there to see it?

The blog that I read and commented didn’t say much except about the video.  Here is a link to the video that was on the blog that I read!

Blog Action Day

October 18, 2007

Assignment: The best way to participate is to post on your blog something that relates to the environment. Your post can be about anythingto do with the environment. So you could write a post which is off topic for your blog OR relate the environment back to your topic in some way.

There are so many different ways I approach this assignment.  I am going to write about global warming.  When we are burning fossil fuels to power our homes and run our cars this creates global warming pollution.  Big and small changes can add up and make a real difference in the fight against global warming.

When we are at home we can use less energy.  Home energy accounts for 21% of America’s global warming pollution.  Did you know that traditional light bulbs are actually small heaters that produce a little light at all, they also waste a lot of energy making heat.  We don’t need “lights” that are heater, that is what heaters are for!  Once we make smart choices by using less of the energy suckers, we can live in a more clean and healthy environment.

Here is a list of things that can help you to live a better life:

  1. In summer, keep shades down to keep the cool in.

  2. In winter, open shades to let the sunlight to help warm rooms.

  3. In winter, keep your thermostat cooler at night or when the house is empty.
  4. Install a programmable thermostat to heat and cool rooms only when necessary.

  5. Plant trees around your house to cut cooling costs in summer.
  6. Insulate your walls and ceilings.

  7. Install a light-colored or reflective roof.

This website helped me a lot!

Narwhal

October 18, 2007

Something that I know nothing about is the Narwal; that is up until a couple of days ago.

Narwhals

What is a Narwhal you may ask?  A Narwhal is a an artic species of cetacean.  Threy are rarley found south of 70° latutide.  The Narwhal is on of the two species of white whale in the Mondontidae family.  The scientific name for the Narwhal is monodon monoceros.  It is possibly also related to the Irrawaddy dolphin.  The Irrawaddy dolphin is a type of dolphin.  If is found near the coasts and found in some parts of south-east Asia. A quick couple of facts are that the Narwhal is a mammal.  It is a carnivore.  Did you know that the Narwhal can get to be between 13 and 20 feet.  It can weigh between 3,500 pounds.  It’s size relative to a bus is:

Illustration of the animal's relative size

The narwhals are usually in pods of about 10 up to 100 whales that swim in the Arctic ocean.  The name Narwhal means “corpse whale” because it often swims belly up, laying still for several minutes. Narwhals usually take their time going places, slowly breathing and rolling, but when chased, they are extreamly quick. Sometimes they travel in small family groups, in these groups they communicate by means of a great variety of squeals, trills, whistles, and clicks.  The Narwhal is an extreamly interesting animal.

Some information about the Narwhal Tusks can be found here.

The only thing that I knew about them before this post is that there was a Narwhal in the movie Elf.  When Buddy was leaving the Narwhal was the one that came out of the water and had a very deep voice.

Podcast!

October 11, 2007

When I read this assignment I thought well, what am I going to do.  At this time I was extremely confused in math!  I thought well I might as well just type in math so I did.  I came up with this amazing podcast!  This podcast was all about Absolute Value.  I always thought I understood absolute value but there were a could of little things that I didn’t quiet understand.  For example, I knew that most of the time the answer was a positive number and in this podcast it told me that the answer was always a positive number.  The comment that I left this man was: Wow! I am taking math and I was a little confused with the absolute value.  This podcast really cleared things up for me!  Thank You!  I thought that this would explain that his podcast did really help me.

Have You Ever…?

October 11, 2007

Have you ever left something that was extremely important to you in another state?I have, this past weekend I had a softball tournament in Brooklyn, NY.  We had just lost our first game on Sunday, (this meant we were going home).  We all put our bat bags down a couple yards from where we were sitting down to have our little “after game” talk.  Once we had our talk everybody walked in different directions.  I walk to my car to talk to my parents.  Then I saw that my friend was walking toward the bathrooms, I went with her because I had to go.  After we got out of the bathroom we went over to watch the other game that was going on.  The girl that was pitching had a line drive up the middle, the ball skimmed her glove and hit her right in the throat.  They had an ambulance come and take her to the hospital.  This had to be about a total of 45 minutes since our game had ended.  Once that girl was in the ambulance and had been on the way to the hospital we started walking toward our car.  I said good-bye to everybody.  I think it must have been an hour after our game when we were getting into the car to go home.

On the way home I had to get something out of the back for my Mom.  I, not even thinking, don’t look back there to see if my bag was there.  All the way home I had a gut feeling, you know the one that is saying STOP you forgot something.  I tried to push it out of my head, I even fell asleep!  When I woke up we were in the parking lot of a bowling alley for my sister’s friend’s birthday party.  We were there for an hour I thought that my parents had gotten my bag and put it in the car.  After the party was over we went home and my dad was unpacking the car and he opens the back door and the first thing he says, “Casey, where’s your bag?”  My stomach dropped!  I got so scared.  I had no idea what was going to happen?  I didn’t know if someone from my team had picked it up, I didn’t know if someone stole my equipment, I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do.

We I ended up calling everybody on my team to find out if they had picked it up.  Everybody said, “Oh my gosh, you left it in Brooklyn!”  I had no way to respond to that because saying the words, “I left my bag in Brooklyn,” scared me.  I ended up going all the way back to Brooklyn that day (total of about 6.5 hours in a car) we ended up finding it and we didn’t get home until between 9 and 10 o’clook.  This was the worst experience of my life…so far.Have you had any experiences like this?  I would love to know!

My Goal Is…

October 4, 2007

What are the greatest obstacles to the fulfillment of my dreams and goals?

This one is kind of hard.  One of my goals is to become one of the top sixteen softball teams in the country, at nationals.  The things that stand in my way with accomplishing my goal is that there are so many other great teams that are aiming for this goal as well.  Another thing that stands in my way is that a lot of the other teams are very muscular and have a lot more power then the team that I am on.  The team that I am on has many girls that are very thin and have power, but not as much power as some of the other teams.  Another thing that makes it harder to accomplish my goal is that we only have the opportunity to do this once a year in July.

What are your goals?
